Have you ever entered the wrong passcode and disabled your iPad or iPhone?

My kids have, the wife has, and a number of our customers have.

The only way around it unfortunately is a factory reset of the phone, and is done quite simply, however, you will need access to a PC with iTunes on it.

***WARNING***

This will remove all content on the phone

  • Power off the phone/iPad
  • Whilst holding down the home button connect the device to your computer using the USB data cable
  • Depress the home button when you see the Apple Logo
  • iTunes will then ask you if you want to update and restore the device. Select this option and  it will download the updates and then restart the phone

Once complete you will need to set up the device exactly like you did when you first purchased it.  You can then restore from a backup if you wish.

If this doesn't work you can try DFU Mode:

  • Open iTunes on computer.
  • Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable.
  • Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time.
  • If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode.
  • Click the Restore button of iTunes.

DFU Mode can be difficult to enter sometimes, just keep trying. DFU Mode is a black, blank screen with iTunes saying Recovery Mode.

If you get an error 48 whilst performing this, please see this article
